Description

CAÑO ISLAND FISHING

At about 14 nautical miles from Sierpe River mouth is the biological reserve Caño Island.

This island has a permanent fishing restriction in its first two miles, which makes possible for different fish species to reproduce freely and keep several miles around, a large fish population, many of them are our target in sport fishing:

Cubera Snapper, Amberjack, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna (10 to 15 pounds), Grouper, Rainbow Runner, Pompano, Barracuda…

There are different ways to fish around the Island, trolling and casting, also  jigging from 100 to 200 feet.

Fish with live bait is possible, although sometimes the live bait is not easy to find…

The peak months for Wahoo and Yellowfin tuna around the island is from June to November; for Mahi Mahi the best time normally is from October to the mid of December. Course there is the chance to catch any kind of fish anytime.

If you want is possible to mix the Caño Island fishing with Inshore Fishing

Do not forget to bring sunglasses, hat, comfortable clothes, sun block and a raincoat for the months of May to November.

We recommend you to bring a dry bag to store your cell phone, cameras and other things that can be damaged by water. And if you plan to keep some fish, do not forget to bring a cooler and plastic bags to pack the fish fille that you are going to take with you.
